Becker Avionics has a longstanding history of over 50 years in providing equipment to General and Corporate Aviation, ATC, law enforcement and military organizations around the world. In order to support international market requirements the Company has established branches around the world.

The Becker Avionics success-story starts in 1956. At the edge of an airfield in Baden- Baden in the South-Western part of the young Federal Republic of Germany, the company Becker Flugfunk GmbH is founded by one of those legendary and charismatic entrepreneurs that shaped postwar Germany.     The company's founder, Max-Egon Becker, along with Max Grundig, Helmut Horten and Josef Neckermann, is amongst the pioneers of the German economic miracle of the Fifties and Sixties. His passion for aviation and his flair for revolutionary technical solutions identify the corporate culture right from the beginning. In touch with the everyday practice of avia-tion, the young corporation writes important chapters in the history of avionics. Compact architecture, extraordinary robustness and energy saving electronics, made possible by the extensive use of semi-conductors; characterize the devices marked with the blue Becker brand. "Max-Egon", as his team admiringly call him, succeeds to inspire his young son Roland with his passion for aviation. At the age of 17 Roland Becker receives a Private Pilot License issued by the Swiss Aviation Authority. In the early Seventies, while studying Business Administration, he is granted an IFR license and twin-engine rating. After graduation, and a stay abroad in Latin America, he starts his activities with the management of the Becker Flugfunk Corporation. Roland Becker is soon confronted with the peculiarities of the European aviation industry. US aircraft, equipped with US manufactured avionics, dominate the German and European market. Despite this uneven competition Roland Becker succeeds in winning the licensed French Cessna manufacturer "Reims Aviation'' as a client for the newly developed Becker product line 2000. In addition, a license to manufacture US military air radios is obtained, thus the corporation maintains economic viability. Some years later, a further breakthrough is achieved, with the MBB Corporation accepting Becker avionics for the BO 105 helicopter. During these years the foundations of a pan-European aviation industry are laid with Airbus and Eurocopter. Former French competitors consolidate, Sextant, later to become Thales, emerges as a strong competitor. In 1981 the founder Max-Egon Becker suddenly dies at the early age of 63. Except for his son, Roland, none of the family heirs are interested in the continuation of the corporation. Roland Becker therefore assumes all company shares. It is the beginning of a difficult time affected by internal re-organization and the development of new products and supplemental markets. At the beginning of the 21st century the Becker Avionics International Group, including subsidiaries, representatives, and a comprehensive network of service centres, is present in all the important aviation markets, contributing flexibility and innovative ability that is typical of a medium sized enterprise. The product portfolio has been extended far beyond VFR-aviation. The corporation is a market leader for airborne Intercommunication Systems, setting bench-marks in the growing retrofit market. When it comes to bespoke system- development and long-term programmes, Becker is considered a strong and reliable partner within the industry. The Becker R&D teams offer a large portfolio of custom-made solutions in the area of antenna and radio technology (from 100 Hertz to the Gigahertz range), navigation, direction finding, sensor technologies, digital communication, signal processing and software engineering.
